Has anyone ever upgraded their instruments in a 83 Ranger? Right now my panel just has the dummy lights that come on and I don't like that idea. I'm wondering if there is a way to put an acutal temp, battery and oil pressure gauge in the dash where the existing panel is and do away with the dummy lights. If not I may just put in an aftermarket temp gauge. Thanks in advance for your help.

If you know how to do it you can upgrade it. Get another year close to yours that has the panel and fit it in.

From what I've been told even the gauges are idiot lights, they really don't represent anything they just show normal operating bands until something goes wrong then forces the gauge to show zero or high depending on the gauge. The only gauge that does show anything is the fuel gauge of course.

I put aftermarket gauges in my 84 B2 because none of the dash gauges worked, and weren't ever reliable in the first place.

If you are willing to spend the money, auto meter make a few gauges that I have wondered about how easy they would mount up. And of course you could always make your own panel.

And they have more if you feel like browsing through their website

Diesel,

I'm gonna look at a set of those at some point when I start working on restoring my B2, they look like a nice replacement for the factory gauge pods. Thanks.

And if you don't have big bucks......find some decent looking gauges at the parts store or on the internet that will fit....(just stay away from the made-in-china-gauges!

some members made their own "panel".....cut holes where they wanted the gauges to fit and mounted them...then cut out the OEM panel & mounted the new panel in it's place.....

they turned out really good......

then..............there's me....................
