how much lift do you get from xj coils? i thought it was 2.5 to 3 inches more or am i mistaken? part of me thinks it could be less.

You can't think of it that way because it depends on the axle pivot brackets you have. It's probably in the 5" range if you have 5"-ish drop brackets. But as soft as those are, it can vary a lot depending on the weight of the truck. And those are going to give a scary driving experience if you don't have the steering set up properly. There's no gray area here--it has to be right or it will be dangerous. A stiffer Ranger 6 spring gives you more margin by limiting the amount the front can move if the steering isn't perfect. You put those 8" softies in there with a stock steering setup and it's going to be crazy.

ive got the six inch drop brackets. but i couldnt remember if the coils would bring the ranger up or if they good for around 2 inches under 8. just curious. thank you for your input though

When I was researching coils for my ranger, I found that none of the XJ coils (especially the 8") weren't stiff enough for the weight of the truck. I seriously doubt that your ext cab would be any different. You'll probably want to look into early bronco coils. I found that they are much closer to the spring rate required for Rangers.

Agreed, XJ (and ZJ) coils are likely too soft for a big Supercab truck.
Early Bronco/flex-rated F-150 coils should give VERY ROUGHLY 1" lift for each inch the coil's free length is over 17" (example, coils with a 22" free length may give around 5" lift on a Supercab Ranger).

These are just pure estimates though, based on 300PPI rated coils. I haven't experimented with non-RBV coils under the heavier trucks yet myself.
