(the 8 inch w/ springs)

I know im going to need extended radius arms, I am also going to get the "K" style steering upgrade too. My questions is, is this kit worth it (with the radius arm) for wheel travel and off road capabilities? Would my money be spent better on something else?

2 cents always appreciated :icon_thumby:

skip the 8" kit, grab the 6" with everything u need, save a few bucks and ACTUALLY be able to aling your truck.

theres nothing wrong with the 8" kit persay, but alingment and steering issues are shitty at that point, 6" kit and body lift if u need anymore height

When I still had TTB it had the 6 inch lift with 8 inch springs. i asked the person who originally built the truck why and he said it was waaayyyy easier to align that way. idk why though.

As mentioned.....you only need the 6 inch lift. You will be happier that you did choose it, Bro!!!

alright, now if only the kit came with 8 inch springs instead of the 6 inch, but I actually wasn't too worried about aligning the truck (since its the extended cab not 4 door but still heavy) it would sag those 8 inch springs down a little bit, plus the pitman arm and steering upgrade, as long as I can keep the angle null. Also, the money required for the 6 inch + body vs 8 inch it would be cheaper for the 8 inch (I assume thought not compared prices yet)

TTB isn't hard to align as long as this is followed:

ttp://www.therangerstation.com/Magazine/winter2008/steering_tech.htm

I used that to help my friend with his lift and his steers just like it was stock :headbang: (minus the quicker turn because of the pitman arm drop)

I dont mind spending the time and frustration working on aligning, its spending money that I would rather save (or spend the money on better steering upgrades that would provide better performance offroad) either way the 8 inch gives more wheel travel at the end of the day and if alignment isn't an issue would it be worth it or is the wheel travel I imagine I would gain just marginal compared to the 6?? (I really want to be able to tackle tough terrain, my girlfriend has a camp with over 60 acres of mountain and sick crawling/off roading trails and some of it needs some serious wheel travel)

The 8 inch probably wont give you any more travel, actually. The TTB is limited to about 18" or travel without major modifications. (extended beams, ect)
http://therangerstation.com/Magazine/Fall2003/MaximumFlexForTheTTB.htm
At the bottom he talks about tierods binding at 18" of travel, and thats on a heim-jointed radius arm setup.

Also, you can't get a pitman arm long enough to correct the 6" lift, nevermind 8". The ONLY product that is more then 2.5" of lift is the Skyjacker FA600 Extreme drop pitman arm, and it is only 4". The only option is custom, or stonecrusher steering.
Even that wont let you align it proper, because your camber bushings can only go so far. 6" is about the max you can do while still getting camber right.

so would you say 6 inch kit with 8 inch springs or with 6 inch springs?

6 inch kit with no springs, because those springs are too stiff for max articulation. You want jeep xj coils, not sure the length though

I thought the skyjacker kit had softer springs then other kits?

I don't want the ride to sag (again its the ext. cab) and its still a dd its just a super weekend warrior :headbang:

and I hear some people say that they can't be aligned above 6 inches but is this coming form experience or is this coming from what other people have said? (i.e. have you lifted your vehicle and not been able to align it? and if so what parts did you use and did you end up getting the steering angle back to stock or no?) I need the wheel travel of 18 or more and am willing to spend the money for the custom bent and longer arms to get the more travel for the 8 inch kit but id prefer to hear form someone who knows more than myself when it comes to this (not so much comes to lifting as much as comes to achieving DD drive-ability while maintaining its offroad capabilities).

I just say 6", with 6" coils & 3" body. That's what I have, and love it.

I have the superlift 6 inch kit for a year now no problems alignment was easy. Plus my kit was $499 to my door threw NT&W got chevy front brake lines and was good to go in a weekend truck is a dd also ride is ok for a lifted truck Right now I have 33's

A K-link isn't practical with that much lift if you were thinking of starting with the Superlift steering kit, you'd have to start from scratch with a full-custom idler arm & centerlink.
IMO, the Stonecrusher linkage (or something based off it's design) would be more practical at that height.

You'll likely be able to use the 8" coils on 6" brackets if you have a Supercab truck. However I'd probably just use the coils in the 6" kit with spacers or washers to get that last little bit out of it if needed, this way you can "tune" it's height a little if needed (you'll still need the FA600 drop arm though, which would have to be substituted for the one in a 6" lift).

6" and 8" SJ TTB springs are the same stiffness, around 410PPI, give/take a few.
For something softer, the Deaver Superflex F-150 coils (300PPI) are pretty much your only option (XJ coils may be too soft). The Deaver SF 4" coils I suspect would come out somewhere around 6-7" lift on your SC Ranger.

If you are looking to get more than 18" of wheel travel, start planning your solid axle swap now, and dont spend money on upgrading your TTB.
its the only reasonable option.
