Heya, So Im in need of a new set of spider gears for the 8.8 ranger L/S rear end, my 2 little clutches are worn something fierce..

Just wondering if there are any differences when buying them..more teeth, size etc.. and what if any differences they might have.

I've looked online and cant really find these things anywhere.. If anyone knows of a place that sells them other than a dealership can you post a link for me?

thanks, Ck.

The only difference in them is for the spline of your axle shafts. If you have a stock Ranger axle, you have 28 spline axle shafts. If you have an Explorer or FX4 Level II axle, you have 31 spline axle shafts.

Ok perfect, now where can I buy just them little gears rather than bust apart an old one at a wreckers..lol

You can probably get them at an auto parts store or the dealership.

Why do you need spiders? Can't you get a rebuild kit with new clutches and shims with out replacing spiders or am i missing something? I have not rebuilt a l/s or had one apart, thus the question. [but have added a shim to an open diff to make a homemade l/s].
Quick search turned up this; http://www.yellowpages.ca/search/si/1/driveline+parts/ontario,+canada
Respectfully,
Richard

funny thing is ford had no idea what I was talking about when I phoned them up.. havent found any links online to buy them.. and if I did know a reputable dealership the price would prob be through the roof.. if anyone knows of a online place (summit, RA,) etc that DOES sell them please reply!

thx, ck

You sure it's the spider gears you need? Got a set here after putting my Power Trax in. $5 + shipping. These are from an open rear end if that makes any difference, I'm clueless on that.

almost 100%, they were pretty worn when i changed the gear oil and put the whole new rear end in this spring, and when I brake there's a bit of a grinding noise when I get to a complete stop.. brakes are good, and just replaced seals and axle bearings so its gotta be the gears. Theres about a 1/4" inch of play on each axle shaft (in and out when pushing on the tire) so im assuming its gotta be the L/S gears @ top and bottom of inside the housing.
