I just bought my 1993 ranger it has the 4.0 so after reading(and crawling under the truck) found out it has an 8.8 w/3.08 gears. My question is i have an 8.8 out of a 88 mustang w/3.73 gears will it be a diret bolt in or should i just change the gears.

Were the mustangs coilsprung? Even if they were leafsprung, I doubt the spacing is the same. But the gears will interchange.

The Mustang 8.8's are coil sprung. You could swap it in, but you will have to grind off the coil spring parts and weld on leaf spring plates.

I think the Mustang is narrower.

I think the Mustang is narrower.

mustangs take 2 short shafts from most early 7.5s and 8.8s out of RBVs so they are roughly narrower by the difference between the long and short shaft in your 8.8.
