im considering swapping a 8.8 in my 00 ranger, but have a few questions. what axles would be a direct swap? i know where i can get a disc 8.8 from a 98 explorer, but im worried about a hassle hooking up the e brake. would a drum 8.8 for the same year model be an easier swap? TIA

A drum 8.8 will swap right in, any 8.8 out of an explorer will need the spring perches cut off and welded onto the top of the axle tubes and will need the pinion angle set.

If you want 100% bolt-in, you should be looking at a Ranger 8.8.
Ranger 8.8s have 28 spline shafts though, so if it's bigger shafts you're after, then yes, you'll have a little bit of welding to do.
