plannig to pickup a 2001 4by4 ranger, i am going to swap my 4.11 8.8 into the truck, do i need to change the gears one front inorder to match the ratio?

that depends on what the truck has for gears in it currently. If the front axle is geared to 4.10's than yes you can get away with it. If there 3.73's however....something will go boom.

i know, what do i have to do to convert it?

well check first and see what the gear ratio is in the stock truck, you might get lucky and it already have 4 10s. If it does have a different ration, you either have to switch out the pig for another one, or regear the stock one. Either way you have to disassemble the whole front end to get everything apart. If you cant regear your self, its probably cheaper for you to try and find a Dana 35 unit from an IFS truck that already has 4 10s in it.

cheers.

any particular ifs truck?
