8.8 in a first gen 2.3L

I believe the 4.0L driveshafts are a touch shorter since all 4.0L Rangers came with an 8.8" axle, doesn't always matter, but it matters more if you are lowering it...

Well Scott, the whole idea is getting a driveshaft to work with an 8.8, so that should be just fine. While it might not be happening at the moment, I do expect the truck to be lowered within the year. DJM beams and spring under axle. Maybe lowering springs or lifting shackles as well depending on how it sits after the other stuff.

Sent a quote request off through car-part about getting that 4.0L driveshaft shipped. Will probably end up going to get it in the next week or two.

Of course going through all this, it looks like between work and college load, I might not get a chance to work on it for a while anyway.

If you have a pick-n-pull type junkyard around, try them first for a driveshaft. I get all of mine from our local place and they are usually $12 each!!!

I say "careful selection of parts" because more than likely you can have it retubed and put the correct yoke on the trans end at a driveshaft shop for FAR less than having a brand new one made. I have done that many times.

Closest one is an hour and a half, and there are two more within 10 miles of it owned by the same company. Finding what you need is a crapshoot.

Also looked at pricing and it's about $35 for a driveshaft there. Save $15 but I'd spend that much extra in gas and dealing with the traffic just isn't worth it.

Not to say it won't happen, I may still need engine parts I can best get at one of those.
