I'm trying to determine if the 8.8 rear axle on my 97 EXP 2wd will work for my 87 BII 4wd.
The tag says:

S613C R
3L73 88 7A06

I understand that it is an 8.8, with 3.73 ring gear and is Limited slip.
I don't understand the axle model info (S613C) or the Date? (R) or the Plant ID (7A06).
Will this axle do well in a 4X4 aplication? my D28 is 3.73, so that will match.

Thanks for the help!

Of course it will work. Gear ratio is the same, the rest of the info on the tag doesn't matter. Flip the perches and bolt it in!

Thanks for the quick reply.
Will the BII drive shaft bolt up to the flange of the 8.8 (is the hole pattern the same between a 7.5 and the 8.8
), if not how are people addressing this?

some were and some werent. might have to take your shaft out and match it to the flange on the axle. i think it depends on the year i know some 7.5 and 8.8's used the same flange but i think that was the newer rigs

2 options to make it bolt up.. 1. redrill the axle flange and bolt it up: 2. replace the flange from the ujoint on the axle shaft to one from an explorer.. that's only if you have the ujoint driveshaft, if you don't you need to upgrade anyways

replace the flange from the ujoint on the axle shaft to one from an explorer..
Depends what joints his driveshaft has. Mine has 1310s, the explorer I had was 1330 so the flange yoke would not work. You need one from a 90+ Ranger.

well true that.. i forgot i had an explorer shaft shortened down to my needs. to make it fit my 7.5 i put a front flange on the rear of my explorer drive shaft.. it just happened to work out!!! so a front flange on the rear is what i did
