whats involved in changing a exploder 8.8 from drum brakes to disk brakes?
anyone ever seen a write up on this?

be easier to swap entire axle. get a 95 up axle thats disc.. pretty much a bolt in swap..

You need the backing plates, rotors, park brake shoes, and calipers. Everything bolts right on. You will have to redo your hard lines on the drum axle as you will need to install the short flex lines that go to each caliper. You will need the ebrake cables for the disc axle awswell.

Thats for a 28 spline 8.8 tho, he already has an explorer 31 spline its just drum not disc. The disc stuff bolts right on, you don't have to redrill holes or anything.

thanks sasquatch.

You also need need lines and soft lines from the explorer axle. The soft line on the drivers side is teed all in one. I just did this exact thing a week ago. I'd suggest swapping to the newer explorer master cylinder and booster if your ranger doesn't have ABS.

I'm using 2 RH lines and I still have the stock line at the center of the diff.

Funny that article came up. I just finished re-installing those backing plates, on the axle I have in the Bronco right now, (Ranger 8.8). Yes those brackets are still around. I almost sold them at one point.
