My friend has a 8.8 rear end from a 97 cobra. Its just sitting in his garage collecting dust. I have a 1996 b2300 5 speed. Just out of curiosity would the 8.8 fit? Would it possibly be a driveway job?

If it's a straight axle (I thought Cobras were IRS) it would be set up for coils, you would have to do a lot of work to convert it to a leaf type set up, if it's even the correct width... I would just keep the stock rear, you'll never blow it up with the 2.3, but if you really want an 8.8", one out of an Explorer is what you're looking for, although you would have to convert it from spring under to spring over... The easiest (albiet not the strongest) would be a Ranger 8.8" from under a 4.0 truck...
