79 xs 400 motorcycle with a stiff clutch

hey there i have a 79 xs 400 that has a really stiff clutch cable very hard to pull and makes your hand hurt after a short ride, we changed the cable and no difference any ideas?? thank you in advance

Try lubing the cable, if thats not the fix its probably something internal that broke, and that I cant help with. I do know that my 1982 Seca 650 has a stiff clutch to begin with, so I put these on
