7-pin hookup

I'm getting ready to wire up my truck for my grandpa's trailer since we are moving in a few weeks here. Got 1 little question about the wiring.

What'd ya'll do with the battery hot wire?

I'd rather not run wire all the way back for it if I don't have to, but I'm pretty sure I won't easily find a battery hot terminal that far back.

I didn't hook it up because I didn't need it. You will have to run it to the front if you want to use it.

That's about what I was afraid of.

I do intend to use it because even though its a light trailer that I'm towing it does have brakes and I intend to take advantage of them.

Uhm... Hooking up the 12V hot wire does nothing but run the interior lights and charge the battery.

If you want to use electric brakes you need a trailer brake controller which uses the blue wire in the 7 pin harness.

It attaches under the dash and has 4 wire, one is a ground, one is 12V hot, one goes back to the 7 pin plug, and the last one attaches to the stop light switch on your brake pedal.

I knew the brake controller stuff already, I just don't like having loose wires. Didn't know about the interior lights/battery stuff. Plus you never know when you are gonna need it for something.
