Hi folks. A quick, and I hope simple, question. I want to buy a Ford Ranger with a 7' bed. Well, I can't really tell from pictures what length the bed is. Any way to tell from the vin code, etc., just what the bed length is?

Thanks.

Mark

If it is an extended cab, it's a 6 foot bed.

Not to sound like a d-bag..... but is there a reason a tape measurer won't do the trick?

i think he's talking more along the lines of a sign that might be in a for sale ad. but you are right about the extended cab, shane. the long beds were only offered with a regular cab. other than that, i dont know of any identifiers, but once you get used to them you can tell just by looking.

I am looking at various Rangers on repairable sites. In states not even close to me. Trying to get these places to give you any information at all is like pulling teeth.

All stepsides are short bed.

Here are some pics to help you out. Looks like the distance the gas door is away from the front of the bed is a dead give-away.

yep, gas door is centered between front of bed and fender on long bed, close to front of bed on short bed, there's 6" added to both ends not all on the front or rear so gas door is easiest giveaway...

I go by if the cab is about the same length as the bed it is a 6' box, if the bed is longer than the cab it is a 7' box.

I have a 7' bed on my truck, the length is nice, the room in the cab... not so much. :icon_thumby:

Excellent advice. I'll use this tip when looking at the pictures on the Internet.

Kudo's, sir.
