7.5 to 8.8

ok i know this has been beatin to death but....


i have a 90 ranger with a 3.08 and open diff and 9 in drums
i want 3.73 gears with a factory style trac loc, so i figured instead of putting the money into the 7.5 i'd just find a junkyard 8.8 with 3.73's and a trac loc and i know for a fact that the 95 and up exploders are not a bolt in affair as we had one in the shop today.

so what i want to know is this...

1. will an 8.8 out of the same year ranger bolt right in without changing the driveshaft flange,brake lines or fittings or shock mounts/

2. will i need anything other than different u-bolts?

3. will the width change if any mean i have to use different wheel.

and by the way its 2wd regular cab 4gyl 5spd

Any Ranger 8.8 will bolt in, and the only thing you may have to change would be the drive-shaft flange. If you pull the axle from a truck that is the same as yours (both longbeds or supercabs, etc...) just grab the shaft too..

I was reading on here recently that all rearends starting somewhere in or around 90 have the big bolt pattern on the flange, so you may not even have to change that. If you measure the distance between the holes you'll be able to tell.

one thing to remember as well, 93 and newer ranger axle's are 1.5" wider than the 92 and down models. Width and everything would be the same from a truck with a 90-92 8.8 rear. Prior to 90' 8.8's weren't put in Rangers.
