hey guys i'm lifting my 89 and was just wondering whos running a 7.5 with either a 6 or 8 inch lift, 35" tires and what gears your running and well just how well they hold up under wheelin. this way i can make my judgment to go with it or opt for an 8.8. thanks guys!

Jeremy

also dose anyone have and coments on skykackers 8" kit?

I was running 33s and 4.10 gears with with a lsd and it chipped a couple of teeth off the pinion. If you have the funds I personally would go ahead and swap the 8.8 in

I'm running stock suspension/wheels/gears, I still say go with the 8.8 if money allows. I'm getting one as soon as I can afford both ends.

no matter the gears, if your running 33's or bigger you're just asking for something to blow up.

i did research on 33's on the stock 7.5 and dana 28. and some have blown up multiple front and/or rear ends. but others say they have been wheeling on it for years.

i'm running 33's on the stock 7.5 and dana 28. all is well so far, but i haven't pushed it real hard yet...

Find a 9 inch from an Early Bronco.

+1. Those are hard to come by, and its about the only thing I'd put in my ranger over the 8.8 when I go to upgrade axles. I will definitely be looking for one when I go to build my B2 tow rig.

i had an open 8.8 with 1/4 tread 35's and it had 3.23 gears and i never had any issues

How's mine? In pieces and now in a scrap yard...

im running 33s on the stock 7.5 with 373 gears and it still gets up and goes good but this sprign the 8.8 goin with with a 4.0 and newer 5spd

a 7.5 axle and a 28 spline axle 8.8 will interchange. I don't know if the metal is a different quality or not but the dimensions are identical.

I'd put in a 8.8 31 spline... out of an explorer, get the disc brakes and beefed LS and carry on.
But that's after I watched my stock 7.5 explode into a million pieces (it may go 10k miles it may never die....) then if you get stranded and can't get home put it in 4wheel drive and keep it below 50mph, but that's just me.

I wouldn't waste my money on gears or a locker on a 7.5 though.

This has been covered one million times...do a search.

That said

Fully locked with deep gears in a 7.5 is asking for trouble. But if you are running an open diff or limited slip it will be fine. Just don't bother running anything other than stock ratio, 4.10 and down gears because you'd be wasting money.

The 7.5" axle that's under the bII now with 36" tsl/sx's, was daily drove for 4 years with 33"'s, 4.56 gears, and welded the whole time. It has been a trailer queen for over 3 years now. So that's 7 years out of my welded 7.5" with 33/36's both on pavement, mud bogs, and rocks. I have never had an issue.

Ain't truck building a bitch. Forget 7.5's, they're junk! go 8.8", or 9", or 10.25, 14b, D70, it only gets deeper.

Just do it... Really, the EB 9" doesn't have much over the 8.8"... Not worth the trouble of finding one...

Been running a 7.5, 4.56's with 33"s for 3 years now, no problems whatsoever. Oh, and thats with a 4.0. :icon_thumby:

(And a locker too. :secret:)
