i currently have a 7.5 traction lok rear with 4.10 gears on my 89 ranger. I plan on doin a 5.0 swap in the future and was wondering if my stock rear could handle a slighty modded 5.0 or do i need to swap to a 8.8 rear

My guess from what others say would be no, but if you went very easy on it I think it could work for a bit, but an Explorer 8.8 31 spline would be way better, ot just a 9" out of a stang?

The 7.5 will last for a while. Red85 has one behind a 302 and it has held up so far. Leave the 7.5 in it for the swap then start building up a 8.8 from an Ex. That way you can do a full rebuild on the new axle and swap it in when it's done. You won't have to try to do things a little at a time with the axle.

alright sounds good ill leave the axle in for now and build up and 8.8
