I am looking for a locker for my 7.5 rear on my 1994 ranger. I need it to be relatively cheap and reliable. I was looking for spools but cant seem to find any and i have heard of welding the spider gears. My only problem is if i were to weld the spider gears would it be reliable? Because i am very tight on cash and am trying to keep it cheap. Also does anyone know the recommended torque for the bolts on the diff cover?

why would you lock a 7.5 rear??? its kinda weak to begin with. you would be better of trying to find a 8.8 with say a torsen in it and using that instead. if you weld the gears, it is only as good as your welding.

none of the lockers are cheap. the LockRight is the least expensive at about $300 or so new. it clicks when going around corners and when parking in a lot with tight turns. every now and then, you get a big "clunk" when it unloads.
next would be the Detroit. more money at between $450-500. much quieter, much smoother, and definitely the best you can get for under $500, imho.
the selectable lockers are real spendy. probably close to $1k (or more) by the time you set up air compressors and/or electric solenoids to get them to lock up with the push of a button.
i've never seen a spool made for a ranger 7.5 axle.
you could get lucky like me and get an excellent Detroit locker from another TRS member for $250 in the 'parts for sale/wanted' forums.
welding the spiders seems to be real hit-and-miss from what i've seen and read. i'd just save up and get one of the lockers if it were me.

take the money you were gonna spend on a locker (used or new) and go buy an 8.8 with a limited slip from someone parting out an explorer. you can get them cheap, i had one lined up including the rear explorer leaf springs for $150. plus, then you'll have disc brakes and a stronger axle. then save up for a locker for the 8.8
