In the tech library it mentions the 28 spline in an 8.8" is the same as the 7.5".
(both 1990 Ranger rear ends, NOT Explorer) I broke both axles in my 8.8". I have another donor truck and was wondering if the axles out of it would fit.
:icon_confused:

My truck has been sitting "on" my driveway for weeks and weeks. Right beside it sits a 2wd P.O.S. that could have given to the cause a long time ago. Damn I need to get on here more often!!!

But the good news, I'll be back on/off the road soon.:icon_hornsup:

Thanks for the info.

I believe, if you havent already figured it out, teh main difference is housing size. As well as amount of materials used.

The dumb thing is that I "up-graded" a couple of years ago to an 8.8"(28 spline). Little did I know I was only getting a bigger ring and pinion gear. Then, I break the 8.8" axles when I never had a problem with the 7.5". Oh, well, live and learn...hopefully. I do enjoy the Detroit locker though.

Thanks again to the good people at "Gotmudd.com" for pulling my broken a** from the Devils Backbone to the front of Haspin Acres with no rear tires on my truck and a broken front end.(basically no help from me). They had to strap 2 of their trucks together , but, no problem. Nice Rigs Guys!!! Cheers!!!

If you truly want an upgraded 8.8 you need ot upgrade to 31 spline shafts and diff. You wont have a problem outta these, not with any stock ranger motor.
