hello i bought and 8.8 inch axle with 4;10 gears out the junk yard only to bring it home and found out on my 97 ranger it had a 7.5 with 4;10 gears on her .Adding the 8.8 with 4;10 will it add any torque compared to the 7.5 with 4;10 on her .Keep in mind i have a 2.3 lit 4 banger :icon_confused:

Well in your intro, you mentioned running larger tires so I would sure put that 8.8 in there. Same torque but a lot stronger in the gears. Give you a chance to go thru the 8.8 and rebuild if needed or add a L/S.

no same gear same torque. since you have a i4 you could just swap it for strength and or disc brakes if they have them otherwise take it back.

Darn i guess ill put it in there for strength it di come off an 06 ranger did the 06 come with a locker and the 31 splies instead of 28 any difrence there
:icon_confused:

Only if it was an fx4 lvl 2 ranger

Only if it was an FX4 Lvl II and even then it would probably only come with a L/S. If not you got the 28spline with drums.

I'd just take it back unless you plan on any hard core wheeling and have over 31" tires. The added weight would do nothing but hurt performance and your 4cyl is probably in no danger of breaking any axles, I have a 3.0L and its still alive.

not to steal this tread ,but I just got a explorer 8.8 w/ disc & 3.73 LS from a '96 explorer C/L parting out ad for $80. I currently have a 8.8 installed in my 94 2.3 2wd with 4.10 LS that came from a 4.0L '99 ranger. I will be swapping ring & pinion gears as I want to keep the 4.10s. Then I will be having a 8.8 w/3.73 LS up for sale.

I will be eventually doing a D30 sas 4wd conversion & running the largest size of 33s. At that time I will be re gearing with 4.88s

Ya i have big tires on the truck and i am going to ad a good bit of wait on her . is there in smaller gears tohelp with the botom end power to get up the hills with a load with the 4 banger . This engine is going bye bye in a few months so im still thinking on that won ill make another page for that :icon_confused:

hay is there any other gears i can punt in the 8.8 to get more low end

If you are thrifty like me ,you will find lots of free/cheap stuff for 7.5 as opposed to 8.8 which is more desirable to hot rodders. Watch some Mustang boards for 7.5 gears .The 7.5 is strong enough and as stated above it is lighter too. BTW PLEASE USE THE COLON instead of the SEMI-colon in the gear ratios its killin me-same key just SHIFT to uppercase -:icon_thumby:

and you can put in an LDS or a LOKECR :icon_rofl: 4.56
