7.3 diesel ranger? why not

You know what id like to see a early 2000's international 7.3 inside a ranger why hasnt anybody done this. do they not realize how crazy fast that ranger would be for real id be freakin out at a stop light lookin foe the truck making that beautiful diesel enginesound and the light turns green and a newer ranger comes flying out leaving nothing behind but rubber and black smoke... ahhhh sounds so awsome and it deffinatly could be done just add like another foot or 2 to the front of the car make the hood and frame longer it probally would look preety cool with a large motor and a longer nose

People have done a 5.9 cummins swap... or at least one person has, he has a video on you tube...

Its pretty hard to cram a big motor into a little truck, and most of the time, it isn't worth the effort.

This is something that I have seen and heard examined in great detail both on this forum and in real life. I have even heard of it done once or twice. The general consensus is that with the other available options for diesels it is just not practical.


The 7.3 is just so massive and heavy. It takes a lot to get it squeezed in there and to make the front suspension strong enough to handle that weight. It causes all sorts of steering issues from the front being so heavy.

A 4 or even 6BT Cummins is far more practical, and that's what most guys go with.

The only way you're going to fit a 7.3 PowerStroke in a Ranger without SERIOUS modifications is by hauling it in the bed!!

To do this would be like trying to stuff 20 pounds of junk into a 5 pound sack. It's damn near IMPOSSIBLE to do so.

It is more possible for a 2x4 than for a 4x4 thats for damn sure, but it would be awesome. But your talking an insane amount of fabwork.

You may have to flip it around & run it through a v-drive.

The downside is that you'll loose all praticality of the bed, which defeats the purpose of a having Ranger in the first place.

Oh, it can be done. Yank off the body, build a frame to fit the heavy pos motor and use the 7.3 tranny, and then custom shape the body to fit the frame and then you have how much invested? Way too much. No idiot would go to that much trouble......
Besides...I am sick and tired of seeing the diesel cars and trucks puffing out that black smoke and stinking up my planet. I will never believe that this motor is a clean running motor. If you can see it and smell it it is not healthy for you. Why don't we take some of these pos owners and put them in a closed room for a few minuets and see how they feel when we have to sit in traffic and see the crap smoke and breathe those crap exhaust fumes???

So you want to burn twice the fuel in a diesel so it's cleaner? Like the EPA has mandated we do?
