6000 miles and already worn out!?

yeah. I expected worse. that truck was making the loudest noises. it eventually turned into an all out grind. I was embarrassed to drive it down the street. I boast too much to everyone about how great my ranger is. I got alot of this from the chevy croud. . but I took it with a grain of salt knowing that it will be back in action soon.

I would disuss with the shop installing the transmission what happens if the "replacement" goes bad too. Chances are if he is using a hole-in-the-wall transmission rebuilder they may not know what they are doing, and all of their tranny's may be junk.

Just a thought now, instead of 6k more miles.

Well. I love my local auto shop. Got my truck back today, Its like brand new. They said the reason my tranny went out is it was full of water!

They cleaned all the water out of it before they sent it back to the tranny shop so they wouldn't hassle me .

He said if I run in deep water that I have to drain all my fluids in my truck afterwards. that means. tranny, transfer case and diffs. he said the seals on them don't keep water out, Just oil in. I wasn't aware of this. I was only told that water gets in through the breather tubes, and to extend and raise the tubes so they wouldn't be submerged. do you really have to change all your fluids after a mud run or is there a better, less expensive way?

If the rebuilder knows what he's doing and he looks at that transmission, he'll figure out it was a lubrication failure.

You went in really deep if you submerged the input shaft. That's almost right next to your feet. You won't get water into the transmission by splashing the seals.

You need to change the fluid in the transfer case, both differentials, and repack the front wheel bearings and the hubs,

FYI, M5ODs vent through the stick. If you can figure out a way to extend that vent, I'd like to hear it.

yeah I knew it was a bad idea to follow trucks on 38's through mud and water, but I didn't get stuck . The tranny and transfer case have new fluid and im gonna get on the diffs and wheel bearings tomorrow after work.

So everyone who goes deep in there rangers must change all the fluids and repack there wheel bearings every time?

Or is going deep in your ranger just a generally bad idea and don't do it at all?

The owner's manual says in as many words to change the fluids when going deep.

wow. I had no idea that people change all there fluids and repack there bearings after every mud run. Well my hobby just got alot more expensive and time consuming. Oh well, its worth it. thanks for the help and advise man.

just wondering but i have the same problem with the noise in every gear, but mine also makes noise in 4th gear, does that mean my tranny is still failing?

keep in mind that your stock air intake is quite low...about halfway up the radiator grill. if you splash enough water or submerge that...your hobby will get VERY expensive VERY quick.

yeah. I have been looking at that and am coming up with some snorkle Ideas. But I havent gotten that deep before. some times when you hit a little water hole fast you get some splash up. But I always stop and open my hood afterwards and see if it is wet. Its always bone dry. But it does sit low, and it makes me uncomfortable. Im more worried about water in my drivetrain and wheel bearings.
