I have a john deere 420 w tractor with a 6 volt battery, I can't remember which cable is positive, I think it is the one going to the starter but my dad said he thinks it is backwards on the tractor. just wondering if anyone can help.
Thanks

Don't know off hand but if you know which way the motor rotates you can find out by doing the following. Remove the starter and put power to it and observe which way it rotates. Whichever polarity gives you the correct rotation is the way the battery is to be connected.

I would say it's positive ground set up. my old 8n is anyway.
