5W-20 oil

Just read an old Service Bulletin where Ford changed the engine oil recommendation to 5W-20. Reason for improved economy. Anybody running this? I'm running Valvoline 10W-40 still. Mine's a 94 with 187K miles now. It had 42K when I bought it and started running the Valvoline 10W-40.

I personally don't use it, but I have a pair of 2.9s which were not covered under that bulletin. I have put it in quite a few customer cars over the years and never had issues with any of them from it though.

At almost 200K I would not bother with 5-20 though. Keep running the thick stuff, you will probably notice some valve clatter if you switch.

I've been running 20w50 in mine and it works much better...just concerned with the cold weather coming that it won't start so easy...

If I drop it down to anything else the engine develops this blue fog that pours out everywhere...so, yeah, time for the rebuild...

OK...I went out and bought 5 litres of the Rotella T diesel oil 15w-40 and changed my oil...now my engine has this white smoke coming out of every nook and cranny that I thought would go away after a while...it doesn't...lol

So...I'm hoping it is actually cleaning the inside of the engine with all that detergent and whatnot that is in it...it's been in for about 400 km and still no sign of the white smoke letting up...kinda reminds me of one of those movies made in London England with murder and suspense written into the fog...

I did spend about an hour reading Bobistheoilguy website and found it very interesting...he doesn't like heavy oils in cold climates...due to their VI factor being too high for cold starts...

Think the engine rebuild needs to happen much sooner than I'd hoped...working on that now...got a head the other day but waiting to hear about the magnaflux testing before moving forward...ahead with a head...
