on my 92 ranger 2.3 m50d, when i go from 4th to 5th its a lil dif to put in, and pops out but goes thru the rest of the gears no prob. 5th was fine but starting to act stupid. this is a jy tranny out of a 97 b2300 that was wrecked just to be clear, the original tranny was busted by the previous owner they busted the synchros stuck in 4th and during inspection found 1st and 3rd were cracked in the old tranny so i got a jy tranny and swapped. the 30 day warranty on the trans is up and fig i would ask to address this prob b4 it got hairy. thanx for all replies and info.

Can you hold it in 5th? If you can does it make any type of noise? If the first question is yes and the second is no then you can adjust the transmission for 5th and reverse. On the drivers side of the transmission is a funny looking nut that is held in place with a 10mm bolt and a clip. This is an eccentric shaft that aligns the shift fork for 5th and reverse. Put the transmission in nuetral and addjust it one flat at a time. This my take a couple of times but you'll get it. Any questions PM me.

5th is fine and no noise, sometimes i accidentally grab reverse kind of and grind a half sec then go into 5th, then coming out of fifth is a lil stiff but goes out fine. it goes in good and stays w/ no noise just a lil hard to push in/pull out. reverse is just finding the angle to get the gears to mesh from what i can tell.

Can you give me some details on this adjustment? I have this exact problem... newly rebuilt transmission, 5th is fine, won't stay in reverse.

Will the detent bolt come out of the transmission? What should I expect when making the adjustment?

Thanks,

Just as it said in my last post. You may/will need to go under several times to adjust it before you get it right. There are no tell-tale signs that you have got it right untill you go drive it and see.

After loosening the clamp which part rotates? The big outer bolt or the inner "blade" looking thing? Is one full rotation enough to tell whether this is going to help?

That is, small adjustments until it is rotated one full turn or are multiple turns necessary?

A picture would be worth a thousand words - but I can't find an accurate blow up of this adjuster.

It doesn't turn in if that is what you are thinking. Once you let the clamp loose take it off and you turn the star nut. With the shaft being on an eccentric all you are doing is moving the position of the gear in-out, up or down. Sorry I don't have any pics but could get them later.

Correct me if I'm wrong, my M5OD has a block off plate to where it will not go into reverse from 5th, until I move the lever over to neutral and then back to reverse. It's to keep someone from trashing a tranny from trying to find "6th" gear.

The "big torx nut" is just an odd shapped nut.

the shaft the nut it on is the eccentric.

The "blade" as you call it is the shaft you are trying to turn.

It doesn't move any gears.

The reverse fifth fork is actuated via a bellcrank
that eccentric is the pivot point for the bellcrank.

I wasn't thinking....it moves the fork for reverse and 5th.
