Transmission
Automatic
im building somthin and was considering transmission options for an automatic trans behind my duratec. have read the trans build up threads and the 5R swap upgrade over the 4R, and how the A4 pretty much isnt the way to go so....
If i chose to grab a 5R55E and utilize all its glory would it be as simple as to just grab the harness and computer for the trans as well? Little info would be awesome. Im building a duratec 2.0 and will be utilizing the factory engine harness for the modified factory fueil injection, this is from an 05 focus. would the two computers work together???
Also what bell housing will i need to find to mate to the 2.0, and flexplate/converter options etc....

Welcome to The Ranger Station.

This thread details an approach to mating a modern electronic trans into an older chassis, which makes for some interesting reading what with the computers piggy-backed, like you are proposing. I wish you the best of luck finding your other answers.

hmmm, sounds interesting! thanks for the link, ill go n study now lol!

WOW! i just read thru ALL 9 pages of this guys "swap".....um! Totally awesome that this has worked for him and all but along with everything else needed to be done on my patiular project i dont think this will be an option. tho reading on he "piggy backed" the two computers and one guys input of just using an obdII set up instead of joining two computers did make me think due to the fact that this focus ungine management operates from an obdII configuration.
Im just starting my research for the automatic trans options and still staying focused on simple practicle options.
Maybe ill just build a nice A4LD and call it a day. then all harness/ecu concerns will stay related to the engine controls.
Keep in mind i have not a lot of room for so many computers and bulky harnesses, its a small truck! lol
