I have a 2001 4.0 ranger, I had just replaced the seperator plate with one with bonded gasket. Tranmission was doing fine until yesterday when I kicked it into passing gear to pass a truck, when it was just about to shift back out of passing gear it went neatural. The next mourning when i put it in reverse it tried to back up but was slipping, I put it into drive and it slipped as well until it warmed up then it went in both gears as normal. Could I have blown the seperator gasket when passing? I torqued to spec when i changed it. or could the valve body be warped or something to cause seperator gasket to blow?

pull the pan, and make sur eall the solenoids are properly seated, I had nothing for 3 months, and one day fooled with my solenoids and it drove fine. that said, did you get just a seperato plate and valvebody? or did you get the reman valvebody with all the sonnax upgrades (200 bux at 800700tran.com) food for thought
