I have a 2000 Ranger 4.0 OHV 4x4 with the 5R55E auto transmission.
I have an issue with either the torque coverer "TC" or the tranny. Something is slipping or acting up. It is not having issues shifting between gears. It has done this for quite sometime. When I get bogged down in say mud or trying to pull someone out or towing anything with a little bit of weight, it is like I had a manual clutch and it slips. So I am in some mud... I push down on the gas pedal all the way and the rpms go up, and I go no where. Wheels do not spin, i just sit there.
Another situation.... I was pulling a trailer up a hill. TC i know was not locked, I had the pedal to the floor and the rpms where staying at one spot and I was slowly slowing down. I put it in 2nd... TC locks and up the hill I go no issues. That makes me think it is the TC.
I so the stall speed test. Hold down the brakes, Push the gas pedal to the floor and the rpms go to about 2400 and thats it. I have heard the stall speed is higher then that. There for that is the TC as well??
How do I know if it is a bad TC or the tranny needs new disks?
Tell me what I need to check... I will do such and get back to you all.
ALso, where is the best place to get a new TC or tranny disks?
Truck has 150k on it.
