My credo
I need more sleep.
Ever since I got my truck I have noticed that it does not engage immediately. When I go from reverse to drive or drive to reverse it takes around 2 seconds to change, if you step on the gas you go nowhere and it sometimes makes a chirp. I was told by my friend with the same transmission that it's normal, but my dad said that there's something wrong with it. Is there something wrong? Is it normal?

alot of people have that problems my wifes mom has an explorer that if you put it into gear and dont wait to feel it go in it will just sit and rev and then slam into gear. but once its in it just goes down the road fine.

i think it my be a cycloid problem but never looked into it

Well, it doesn't sit there it will start grabbing and move a bit but it takes a second or 2 for it to fully engage. I may change the fluids out to see if that helps, but I feel like this means it's going bad.

hers has been like that for 4-5 years now. hers does the same thing as your the way it engages

Hmm, my truck is 6 years old, well none the less, I can get it checked out, it still runs and drives so that's good.

yea make sure you post on what you find im curious too

I did some reading and found out that overheating is an issue, especially when towing, and the previous owner did a lot of that.

Unless it is progressively getting worse, and taking longer to engage I would not worry about it. It can take a second to get all the fluid passages filled and pressurized.

About the only thing you can easily try with the trans in the truck and no special tools is replacing the filter.

It's been the same since I got it, that seems pretty right, since it is cold when I get going, it usually doesn't take anytime at all when it's warmed up.
