5R44E Swap?

Since I have a seemingly failing A4LD in my 92 would it be possible to swap in a 5R44E if I had all the electronic components to go with it or is it not even possible on my truck because of it's age?

5R44E is computer controlled. The 92 A4LD is not. I am not saying that it can't be done but it will involve a stand alone computer for the transmission. Take the money from that swap and have a reputable shop rebuild your A4LD with some quality billet parts.

Possible, but not worth it. Basically, you would need the engine as well, because you have to have that computer, and it won't be happy with your existing engine setup.

If this is a DD, I would do as Explorin suggested and get a quality shop to rebuild it. If it is a project, go find a wrecked 3.0 truck about 2003 or newer, and then buy the whole thing and drop the whole power train into your truck.

Ok Thanks guys those were the answers I have been looking for. I am fairly mechanically inclined how hard would it be for me to rebuild the thing myself? I know that they can be pretty complicated but I may be up to the challenge.
