5R44E problem

I have a 2005 ranger 3.0 with the 5R44E trans. it does not have 1st gear but will start off in 2ng gear then you can put it in drive and it changes from second all the way to overdriv but when you slow dow to about 20 mph you have to put it back into 2nd to go again. reverse works as well. has anybody else had or seen this problem.

almost sounds like the valve body is dirty or sticking...change the fluid and filter. not sure if it will help alot but its a shot.

My Guess would be the front-one way clutch has failed
The front one-way clutch holds and drives the outer splines of the center shaft in 1st, 3rd, and 4th gears. Overruns during all coast operations and at all times in 2nd and 5th gear.
