I know this is a mainly Ford friendly forum, but i've got a question...

Has anyone ever thought about throwing a 502 BBC in a Ranger?

There are a number of small block chevy swaps into Rangers floating around. I can't remember a big block off the top of my head, although I know big block Ford's been done.

A buddy of mine called me the other day to tell me that he had dropped a 460 in his 91 ranger. He said that he had to highly modify the frame and some other small mods to get it to fit. So it seems to me that the bigger 502 would be a difficult job unless you plan on making a tube chassis.

seems there was a member on the old board that had a 454 in a bronco II. maybe it was on b2.org but it was all hooked up with a video of it running.

:DWhy would you want a BBC when you could have a Cleveland?:icon_hornsup:

LOL I doubt a BBC is any larger than a 460. That said, anyone who would put a chevy engine in a ranger is a friggin commie.

i know on the 350sbc you got to mod the firewall to clear the distributor, and i would just run custom headers outside the frame rails, think on the 460 swaps onve of the guys used a nissan box(or something else can"t remember) and mounted it on the outside of the frame to give him some more room

if you do it take pics please

I deserve that small poke. After going back and reading what I wrote about the 502 being bigger, I'd have to say that comment didn't come out the way it was intended to. I needed a stupid slap for that. Sorry. I work third shift and half the time I'm probably alseep while i'm posting. Ha Ha.

if you got a 502BBc to fit into a ranger and got it running you would be an engine swap god and have my un-dieing eternal respect.

that being said ........... why would you want to waste a 502 on a ranger? I was considering the 350 into an explorer because i have the 350 and all the associated parts on hand.

I have a friend that has a 428CJ in his ranger(second really, first one twisted the frame), it is putting out a little over 600hp and 800ft/lbs torque at the moment, This thing is so fun to drive, if you take off from a dead stop the torque from the motor will pull the car hard to the right when you step on it.

In most cases ur right....but Mr Kaase is held in the highest regard when it comes to engine building. He is a frontrunner in the enginemasters competition and a staunch ford engine advocate.

I don't care who he is, I still wouldn't do business with him just for that reason. If he's proud of his work, he ought to be willing to post a price on it for all the world to see.
