Looking into gearing/locker my D35 and 8.8 in my 93 Ranger (4.0 5 speed) and am considering 5.13s. I'm currently running 33s but would probably move up to 35s. I'm looking for something i can comfortably cruise at 60 with and still have some power but also have snort when playing offroad. I don't see myself ever going bigger than 35s on the D35/8.8 so 5.13 might be a little low :dunno: I am fairly easy on the skinny pedal so breaking shouldn't be an issue. I've searched the library and forums but I just wanted to get second opinions. I would probably do all the axleshaft work (u joints, full clips, etc.). is there anything I am missing?

In my experience going a little on the deep side with gears is perfectly fine if you can keep the speed reasonable. I have 4.56 gears with a 235/75R15 tire (29"). At 70 MPH my engine turns a solid 3,000 RPM... in overdrive (4 cyl though)

60 makes things much more reasonable.

If you need to drive it fast, going deeper isn't for you.

I would agree, 5.13s & 35s w/4.0L should be no issue at all if you're not looking to break rural speed limits (<70 MPH).
