5.0L chugging

OK guys so got my 5.0l conversion done but it chugs. When idling it sounds fine, but then when you put it in gear it kinda feels like a miss an when it hits high gear at low speeds you can feel it chug. It seemed like it wasn't firing on all 8 before I pulled it out of my donor vehicle and the guy I bought my donor from said his boy put a new timing chain in it. When I pulled the plugs to regap them number 2 cylinder was all gunked up, so I cleaned an regapped it but to no avail. Still chuggin. so any help here would be appreciated.

Is it timed correctly? Correct firing order? H.o engine non h.o engine?

truthfully i have no idea if they got it timed correctly when they put the new timing chain in it....i doubt it is a H.O. engine sine it can out of a 1999 EB Explorer

I know I changed out the #2 plug wire with a different on and the chugging has seemed to quit.

Camshaft position sensor timing/alignment maybe?

Maybe iffy ignition wires or coil pack?

The 5.0 out of that 1999 EB Explorer would indeed be a HO.

More details, what year truck is it in, what ignition system are you using, efi, carb?

currently the motor is in a 2000 Ranger XLT Supercab 4x4....and the motor is stock. I have not done anything to it other than transplant it into my ranger.

If you have a CEL, then, depending on the code, I'd say the cam syncronizer is not installed correctly, and is giving you your issues. Did you install new plugs and wires and gap them at .054?

no i have not replaced the plugs or wires......i did pull the old plugs out an clean them and regap them. I did also replace the #2 pug wire with another off the original motor that was in the trck and my chugging has seemed to of gone away. so thinking i am needing new plugs and wires for sure and kinda thinking while i am at it replace the coil packs also and be done with it.

Its rare that the coil packs go bad. I'd just do the plugs and wires. While you're at it, I'd change the fuel filter if it hasn't been changed in a while...

true that wouldn't hurt to change the fuel filter also since i have not idea when it was last changed.
