I would have it tested at a part store, if its bad a good parts person should be able to match something up for you. Or you could find a start/alt shop to fix it.
why not just use the alternator for your application ........... I mean what did the engine belong in before it came to reside in you ranger......... then use that alternator.
i am actually encountering the same problem, abd what i have found is that a90-92 f150 302 alternator will bolt up to the v8 brackets and it has the same plugs as the 2.9 alternator, it runs about $100 from advance. 89 and 93 are different so they wont have the same plugs. if you have the money id go with a 1 wire alternator, you can get a 100 amp natural finish one for about $150, and a chrome 100 amp for about $200, and there are amp ratings up from there. in chrome, black and natural finishes.
