So I just picked up a 98 explorer sport, im gonna be pulling the guts out of my ranger and swapping into the explorer.
I know the explorers came stock with 5.0 engines so to me that seems like it will be easier to swap my 5.0 into one, is this correct? Does the heater box area or firewall still need to be worked on like the rangers do?
Also anyone know whats involved in adding a clutch pedal to a sport? or what the odds are that the pedal out of my ranger (84) will work in the sploder?

just curious but why pull the motor from your truck to put in the explorer

need more room and wanting something modern to thrash on lol..i may sell said ranger as a rolling chassis if there is any interest though, hate to scrap it.

Motor will drop in using ex v8 mounts, you will need pedal assembly and master cylinder from 95 up ranger. The sport firewall should have the indention in the stock location for the mc, but you will have to drill a few holes to mount it...

Speaking from experience, separate the motor from the trans for install. The exhaust manifolds can stay on, heater box gets close for install and removal, and with the trans connected its a pita...

ok yea, no way on this earth would i try to slide a motor, trans and 2 transfer cases in as an assembly lol. It will be nice to be able to slide the motor in without tearing the heater box up though! Also looking forward to being able to possibly get real headers for no other reason than they look mean lol.
Also GREATLY looking foward to the possibility of having a/c
