Could anybody tell me if my 94' xcab 4x4 has vacuum lines asisting the 4x4 system. I'm trying to troubleshoot why I don't have four wheel drive. Transfer case engages (dash light on) but front wheel don't spin.

no vacuum in the system on a '94. your problem is most likely in the automatic hubs (since you say the lights turn on), they aren't known for their reliability...

Damm..... I was hoping for an easy fix. What's a decent hub to get and what is the price range?

Someone posted the other day that Summit Racing had Mile Marker manual hubs on sale for 85 bucks. You'll also need the wheel bearing retaing nut kit for manual hubs. I don't do any hardcore wheelin' but the Mile Markers work great for me.

Trust me... having the older auto hubs is MUCH better then having the vaccuum hubs and is a lot easier to fix. I spent probably 2 days fiddling with my hubs just to find one stupidly simple problem.

Hubs,,,,

I read in one of the threads or tech articles that the automatic hubs should NOT be filled with grease, just the lite amounts. I think the hubs full of grease wont let the hub actually do what they are sposed to do, and true- the grease in my hubs is pretty well thickened up it seems. Also since you have the electric shift, have you read the tech article about the cleaning up and I think rebuilding of the shift motors ? Simple, just be sure to mark things to where they go before you take the shift motor apart. You will need like a torx 15 or 20 tamper proof bit and a few small hand tools. and maybe a set of brushes for that electric motor.

Good Luck with it.

I have a 99 Ranger and the driver side hub was locked on all the time and the passenger side would not lock at all. Ford wanted $240 per side for new vacuum hubs. I went with the Rugged Ridge manual locking hubs for $230 a pair. Was an easy install and they work great. I do not do any real hard core 4x4 activities, but for what I want they worked out very well for me.
