4x4 Selector Switch???

i am looking at a 86? ranger right now that i plan on going to look at tomarrow. the guy says its a 86, 2.9L, ext. cab. 4x4., auto. he says the 4x4 selector switch is messed up. says the 4 wheel drive doesnt work. has anyone had any issues with these before. other than that, what else could be wrong?

ps: $900 he wants, and it has 144,000, but is pretty rough on the outside, and needs a bed.

4x4 selector switches do fail...but the shift motor has a much higher failure rate.

i picked up the truck, and the touch drive on the roof(above the rear view mirror) for the 4x4 is messed up. the switch broke. could that be all it needs??

could be. you wont know until you replace it
