hey guys I have a 94 Ranger, with the damn button for the 4X4. when i press the button, NOTHING happens, no noises or flashing lights or anything. I'm thinking that it is the control module. if I'm wrong please correct me. and does anyone know where the hell it is?

it's that or the shift motor. you shoulda looked through past threads or the tech library first. i think everyone with an older model ford truck with an electronic shift t-case has had this problem. my BII has an electronic t-case and right now i cant get it to go into 4-lo.....4-hi works just fine. try disconnecting any wires going to the t-case and cleaning them out and then see if it works. they get nasty sometimes. if that dont help i'd look at the shift motor and then if you have time and $$$ go buy a mechanical shift t-case from a junkyard, then you wont have to rely on buttons and extra motors to get into 4wd.

btw, welcome to trs

thanks for the advice. i'll try it out this weekend and post later to say how it went. thanks for the welcome. anyone else have any advice???

i had the same problem with my 94, i did the test on the 4x4 module, search on explorerforums for that, but my module was good, i took the switch out of the dash, and opened it up and cleaned the contacts up and its been working for 2 years so far

wow, never thought it could be something that simple but I'll try it. btw, how did you test the module to see if it was good? is it the one behind the fold down seat on the driver side?

Troubleshooting Guide

CHeck out the following link. It explains how to test the entire wire harnesses and explains the pinouts at all ends.

This might need to be added to the tech library I found this on the web a few months ago. This is currently on my webserver.

well ive checked the connection for the buttons and it seems very clean and makes good connection, i saw the module behind the driver side jump seat and pushed the reset button, the light turned red and stayed on for about 20 sec. what does this mean?
