Have 90 ford ranger 2.9 v6 push button 4x4 when I push the button does not engage but sometimes when Its been parked in 1st or reverse and I start it up the low range light is on ? Any idea whats going on

Is your 4x4 shift module is on top of your dash (passenger side under the access cover)? If so check to see if the module is good by pushing the white button (with the ign. key on) and see if the red light blinks and the module starts clicking. If so the module is good. The problem with my 88 Bronco is that the 8 wire flat plug connector was so brittle from the heat that the wires pull out from the connector. If that's the problem with yours,go the used parts yard and get one from a 95 or older Explorer. The module is in the left side cargo area and cut the 8 wire out.I found out that Ford put the same module in the first generation Ranger/Bronco all the way to the 95 Explorer. There $ 800.00 new but you can get one used for under $ 25.00 at the junk yard. On the plug I used silicone and poured some in each wire port (on the top side only and let it set up overnite and I haven't had any problems since. I would reconmend doing a complete system check(pod switch to module to shift motor) to make sure that it's not more than what I had to deal with.Good luck

His module should be behind the drivers jump seat in the back if it is an extended cab or right behind the seat in a regular cab. It is not located anywhere near the dash.

Shred start here this will help you tremendously http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/search.php

It's behind the jump seat but il take a look and see what I can figure out

If that turns out bad let me know I have 1 or 2 laying around. You pay the shipping and they are yours.

I got another module found out that my plugs aswell are brittle and falling out currently splicing the new plugs now Fml. Let ya kno how that goes

I have a 94 ranger, the 4x4 doesn't work, I did all of the diagnostic procedures on this site for the 94 and older section. Everything checked out except the last item where it says to check the voltage from the module to the dash button. Your supposed to have 12 volts, but when I probe the dark blue wire while pushing the button or the blue and white wire I only get 5 volts. could that still be a bad module?

Wish I could help yah but I'm still figuring mine out. But if so a module is cheap I picked one up used for 30$ so if yah got one and that wasn't the case not a huge loss. And as far as you trying everything and still not working I'd say take her to the shop :|
