hello every one.
i have a problem with my transfer case not engaging .
90 ranger 4x4 2.9 5spd swap to 4.0 94 exp auto ranger is still 5spd .i took all the wiring under hood and dash ,transfer case ,truck has to be in neutral to start 4x4 will not engage .
push button does not light. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well...is the TCase getting juice?
It's easy to pull and test to see if it is moving or jammed. If it hasn't been used in awhile, it could just need to be poked a little. Take it off and manually move the actuator.

Yes power to the plug at the case .i replaced the motor a year or so ago it worked before the engine swap, the explorer worked as well. i will take the motor off and check or move it to 4x4 hi and low then try it again .no lights on dash buttons or noise at motor.

transfer case actuator works well in and out of 4h and 4l no problems.
what does the 4x4 switch need to send power to motor i have a auto wiring harness from the explorer and a 5spd from ranger

Ding-ding...
Thinking through this, I would guess it has to do with the signal it gets from the tranny.

Take a look at this diagram (it's from my 94 EVTM) but it may offer some insight.
