Hey, I have a 2004 ranger 4x4 with shift on the fly. every time I throw er into 4low it takes a second to get there and getting out can take several minutes and moving around. Anyone know why?

4lo has to be done at a compltete stop with tranny in neutral and it does take a second, when your done iwth 4 lo back up your truck about 6 inches to release pressure off the transfer case. It should also just take a second. Absolutely dont drive 4lo on hardball (pavement). Its just the way the trucks work.

You must be moving less than 5mph with the clutch pressed and your foot on the brake to get in or out of 4low with a manual trans. Ranger. Autos require a foot on the brake and the trans to be in neutral. 4low will not engage in park.

Cuz you have an electric shift transfercase and they're dick like that.

That was the whole reason why I swapped in a manual shift tcase.

Try cleaning the motor... I heard that helps.
