4x4 lights in dash

I have a 1998 Ranger 4WD ext Cab 3.0 V-6. My problem is that while driving in 2WD, my 4x4 ( both high and low ) lights blink usually about 6 times then stop blinking.This occurs about every 2 or 3 minutes. Any suggestions on the problem and maybe the fix??

i kinda have the same prob on my 91. havent figured it out yet, gonna dig in this weekend
