4x4 8.8" 4.10 rear diff work in a 2WD?

I have a 1999 2.5L Ranger that has a 7.5" rear diff that shat the bed on me. I've been looking for a replacement 4.10 rear diff either 7.5 or 8.8" but I have found very few for a good price and not too far away. Do the axles from a 4x4 work on a 2WD truck?

you may need to adapt the flange....just a selection of the correct oem parts.
