okay so ive been into 4x4 for awhile, and i was wondering what is the difference between 4x4 and 4x2, i here them used all the time, but cant find out the difference. im sure its very simple so could some one plz help me out haha i need to be educated lol

Seriously?

On a 2wd truck, the front 2 wheels aren't driven. There is also no transfer case, which is what splits the power and drives the front wheels.

4x4 is four wheel drive a 4x2 is two wheel drive. now you know buddy

nah thats not wat i ment i know wat the diff is between 4x4 and 2 wheel drives, i saw on a couple other sites where they sed it was a 4x2 and it was all goin offroad through mud pits and didnt know if it ment it was a 2 wheel drive turned to a 4x4 or wat but i guess it all makes sence now

IF your truck can go into 4 wheel drive and the front tires are not engaged then it is a 4x2 and when you have them locked and 4 wheels being powered then it is 4x4

all-wheel drive means all the time and 4 wheel drive means you can lock them .

Some guys drive their 2wd trucks off road too. They can be pretty capable if properly equipped.

I think I understand your question because I had trouble with that one too.

When they say it's 4x2 that just means same suspension as a 4x4 but only 2wd whereas something 2wd would have different (lower) suspension.

unless its the EDGE(02-05 i think?)/Sport(2006 or newer the 2wd sports that i had pre 2002 were on the same 2wd suspension) anyhoo, the EDGE/Sport packages use 4wd suspension the only difference being no transfer case and pumpkin up front

4x2 just means you're just too damned good to need that other thing... "4x4?" :tease:

Or you're REALLY good at working your winch!
