for some reason when i put my truck in 4wd hi it will work untill i push the clutch in or stop and then keep going. ill take off and still be spinning tires, look down and it poped back into 2wd?? when i pull the lever back into 4hi there is no click or anything locking it there, and the light comes on but then will go out at times. wtf?:icon_confused: 4wd low works great no problems with it. only 4wd hi. its a manual T-case:dunno:
hope someone can help me, thanks in advanced:icon_cheers:

My 97 is doing the same thing. Its something worn or loose in the linkage under the truck. I haven't had a chance to look into it further yet.

If you pull back for 4wd HI and the slide it back and over just a bit more into the neutral area of the shifter just till you feel it click into the detent for 4HI it will stay in.

huh ill have to try that, last time i was moving it all around to find something but ended up putting it in 4low... which is AWESOME!!! I feel like thats my secret weapon when i go out. i never use it, and when all hope seems to be lost, WHAM im out before I even know it

My almost brother in law has a 98 f150 with the live axles. BUt his transfer case(manual) was doing hte same thing, we found he had to vacuum hoses busted and we fixed them and his transfer case works fine now. ONly problem is he has a lift and the handle was never extended so its very difficult to use and requires some pressure to find the locking points.

Sounds like the shifter gate on the side of the trans just needs to be readjusted.

tonight its snowing so i decided to go have some fun in empy parking lots, fun it was. but after i pulled the 4wd back to 4wd hi and then over as if i was going into 4wdlow and moved it bac just far enough to catch the lip. it stayed in prety good so im just gonna do that from now on but idk if that could cause some interferince in the transfercase .

no it wont cause interference, its just the shifter misaligned. When you get time, I would adjust the shift linkage, you dont wanna be dickin around with it when in a bind.
