welp I found a 4spd pretty cheap, been trying to colletc parts for a wile, still on the wall about trans, The truck is goin to be a manual nor less.
So whos useing them? how do you like tham? what there and diff in puttin one in? it has the tcase still on it.

I used a Toploader 4 speed in mine for ten years. But it was a 2wd and not the same transmission you're talking about, unless it came from an early Bronco.

I'm using one. Np435?It's a ok transmission not for a hotrod. But it gets the job done. I concider it a 3 speed sense 1st gear is pretty pointless

Im going to be using an np435 when I do my swap in the next few months.

Not 100% sure on the number for the trans but it's the cast iron 4spd, it's not a hot rod by any means. It's a 4x4. Said the t-case was still on it and can get it CHEAP. But how will this thing be on the high way? This truck will get road drivin a tad bit.

It does somewhat ok on the highway with 33" tires and 3.73 gears. And yes it's a heavy basterd if it's mated with the 205 transfer case also steel the t case will needs its own mount.

If your trans has an all aluminum shifter assembly/top cover then it an np435. If not then it may be the t18 or t19.

I wouldn't do another non-overdrive trans myself for the highway.

Mine is a C5 but it is the same 1:1 top gear that a 4 speed would have, with 31's and 3.73's mine is turning somewhere between 2500 and 3000 rpm (small tach) at 55mph.

Mine doing 65mph on the highway with 32 inch tires with 3.73 gears is turning 2800rpm.

I thought i would give my 2 cents. If you're going to drive it on the highway much I would suggest looking at a 5sp if possible. I have been using an NV3550 trany and 5th gear is great for the highway. 75mph at about 2400rpm. I'm running 31" tires.

I figured if I need to, I can regear the axles out find a set with higher gear ratios.

Welp ending up gettin a 4spd trans, Not the one I was looking at but much cheaper....FREE. Have't pulled it yet but my grandpas old fullsize has one in it.

And on the highway speeds and stuff, things are changed, if I aint just goin to town or a short drive, it's goin to be on a trailer.

How did ever one do there shifter? Would any one know ere it would fall at? I have't got to mesure it, just relized it was in it like 20 mins ago.lol
I'm bout ready to get to cutting on this thing and get rid of my wimpy 3.0.

For the np435, it will end up coming out in front of the shifter hole so the floor will have to be cut, at least in a gen 1 ranger.

In my build thread I have pics of where my np435 shifter sits, it sits further back so you'll have to cut floorpan. And personally I wouldn't recommend a 4spd for you. Only reason I went with one was because of stock gearing and 37"+ tires lol
