4R55E no forward gears

hi guys. i have a 95 ranger 2wd with a 4.0 and no forward gears. the truck ran great until the od light would flash. then it would shift hard. when the light would stop the truck ran great. the last guy to drive it at work said the trans just let loose and started to slip. any ideas? if you put the truck in reverse it goes right in with no slip. i read the article on the seperator plate could that be it or am i way off? any ideas??

It's the first thing I'd be suspect of but since it was left alone untill the trans stopped working, it's probably toast by now.

the truck was driven maybe two weeks like this. do you think it is still worth trying . it will still move forward but lots of slipping.

Will it move forward in manual low?? if it does then more than likely the forward sprag let loose and when you put it in manual low it turns coast clutches on and over rides sprag.

Bruce . i started the truck up and put it in manual low and it went right in. it even spun tires in the dirt. i backed up and went forward a few times and then nothing. no forward at all. i shut the truck off for maybe 2 minutes and it went right back in manual low and spun tires? i dont have a clue!!

Filter maybe plugging up when running and when you shut it off the stuff falls out of filter for a few seconds. If there is that much junk in the pan its time for a rebuild.
