My 99 ranger v6 3.0 4rr4e transmission took a dump on me im looking into on doing a swap to a m5od. Ive been doing a lot of searching but getting mix reviews of the m5od. Is this swap possible? How is the 4r44e compared to the m5od?

"Mixed reviews?" Not on this site. Everyone here loves the M5OD and thinks the auto transmissions are crap. Just wait, as soon as everyone sees this thread, they'll say, "Hell yeah swap it out!" I personally like the auto transmissions and think they're perfectly reliable if maintained properly. I'm not opposed to the M5OD either. Manual transmissions in general are more reliable than autos, but its not too hard to get 200k out of the auto either. It basically boils down which would you rather drive: auto or manual?

How many miles did you get out of your auto? Did you ever change the fluid?

I didnt get crap out of it, it broke on me 55,000 miles. I would like to do a manual but its just to much money for me at this time and I need to get this fixed asap. Fluid was changed not too that long ago when it started acting up on me more and more. Im gonna start with the valve body and hook up a vacum gauge and see if its working properly.

would i be able to fit a m5od-R2 on a 3.0l v6? or does a m5od-R1 the only one that would work for a swap?
i just read about a ZF transmission and they are suspost to be the same as the m5od but better. anyone have experience with these transmissions?
