i got a 91 ford ranger 4x4 4.0, with manual locking hubs and push button 4x4. it will go into 4 hi and the light comes on, but wen i push the low range button nothing happens. ne ideas?

checked my fuses today and the electronic shift is there and good

If its an auto, make sure you are putting it in neutral then give it a try, also if it is a standard, put the truck in neutral and make sure you press the clutch in, then while holding the clutch pedal down, select 4 hi then 4 lo and it should go in. if it doesnt, might be some other problem.

its a manual and if i rem right i tryed all of that, but for some reason i think i only tryed it with it in neutral and the clutch not pressed, still puzzles me why 1 would work and the other wouldnt, i was the middle man in the group of trucks so i couldnt back out of the trail ride, just had to clutch the piss out of the truck and go with 4 hi :\, ill try that stuff tomorrow though

it is probably the what some refer to as the speed sensor. http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6383. look at the link it is the part circled in red. ohm between the green and blue wires you should get 250ohms to 450ohms anything more or less it is bad. that sensor tell the controller that you are not moving faster than 3mph. if it is bad the controller thinks you are moving faster than 3mph and will not let it shift into low. best bet is a junk yard the ford dealer here wanted 200.00 bucks for one. i got 3 at a junk yard for 5 bucks.

i might try that, we got a few junkyards around here, one is so big every week u can go in and take watever u want for free as long as it fits in ur hands, and its all fords! one dude walked out with a tranny and something else on top of a truck hood

nope, gonna go to the junkyard and buy a few of the sensor's
